> > > > > > > > ANY-TIME ORIENTEERING You can orienteer at scheduled events, and take advantage of map sales, being timed, the atmosphere, meeting people, help etc. The lightweight control markers are set out for the day and taken in afterwards. OR you can orienteer at a time that suits you, and this is particularly handy for maintaining social distancing. For areas in public places such as city and regional parks, we have three options for you. 1. Marked Courses. The control points may be specially inscribed posts, or plaques fixed to a fence or building, or distinctive landmarks. You download and print copies of the map from the internet, or perhaps from a nearby agent such as information centre or camp warden, and you look after yourself. We've got four of these and we're trying to get our city councils to install more. Head off to List of Marked Courses. 2. Virtual Courses. You probably haven't been to ALL of our events, and we've put a lot (over 100) of the map files on the website. If you can cope with not having control markers out there, you can print a map and run the course. On some of these courses you can even use the cellphone app MapRun and the phone records your time and visits to each point. Head off to List of Virtual Courses.
On the MapRun website, see especially the simple how-to videos posted by Potteries Orienteering Club.
Orienteering Wellington has a similar approach: head off to List of OW Solos. 3. Design Your Own Course You can also download the "blank" map and design your own course. This would suit those with a bit of experience who have "used up" the ready-made courses. We've listed about 15 of these. If you want the map underneath one of the virtual courses above, we can take the circles off for you. Head off to List of Downloadable Maps. Feedback! We want to know if you like these maps and courses! Email the name of your group (eg "Smith family"), the number of people in it, and which course you did and when, to Use "Anytime Orienteering" as the subject, and add your comments. We'll try and reply with a suggestion about the next club event in the Greater Wellington area, which we think would be good for you. This page was first assembled by
