Another Rogaine in Marlborough

The "Hope"full Rogaine 4 Aug 02

Note Changed Date - from 3 Aug - Now Sunday 4 August 2002

Entries and entry fees need to be received by the MOC Treasurer, PO Box 787,Blenheim by the end of the day, Wednesday 31 July 02.

Marlborough rogaine enthusiast Barry Hope retired injured from the Marlborough 18-hr rogaine last December, with a gash inflicted by one of those hard-to-cross barbed-wire fences. He has now come up with another event in Marlborough, which has heaps of steep farmland close to Blenheim which provide ideal planning and route choice problems. (Perhaps it's revenge he's after...)

The "Hope"full Rogaine will be a 6 and 3-hour daylight event on Sat 3 August, "somewhere between the Wairau and Awatere Rivers". The long event will start at 8am and the short 3 hours later, which makes for a combined finish at 2pm. It is designed as a casual event to introduce people to rogaining, but 6 hours of hills will still provide a challenge to experienced participants.

They aren't having category results or prizes and the entry fee is accordingly very low, especially for those who are members of orienteering clubs. Most of the rogaines in NZ's 11-year history have been put on by orienteering clubs, which are now providing added services such as navigation training. Entries close on 31 July, with the venue announced on 27th. More details...
