Why a “Bootlace” rogaine? Because it was a bit flasher than a “Shoestring” rogaine. Control sites were identified by a piece of orange tape with the control number and a letter on it. Recording the letter showed that competitors had been there. The map had a scale of 1:25,000, which allowed more control sites on the Wither farm without crowding the map. Total points possible were 1770.
It was a cool and sunny morning and 29 teams and solo competitors started at 9:00am leaving Robin and I sitting in deck chair watching through binoculars at the ever smaller people racing off up the hill. From our chairs we could see all the way to the trig so at any one time we could see a number of teams.
At 11:30am or so the teams started to arrive back. By 12:30 the provisional results (with two errors) had been read out. Sausages had been eaten and only one person was missing. He walked in 5 minutes later and admitted to going off the map.
For the record a team of Barry Moore & Shawn Black from the local Harrier Club won with 1200 points. Keith Agmen from TOPS 2nd on 1160 (even after being 6 minutes late) and local Jeff Hughes 3rd on 1120. Richard Law & Russell Lundon who took the glory on the day because of an adding error were 7th on 1010 points (not 1210). First woman on 900 points was MOC member Jane Mitchell followed by Sandra S. (850) and Jenny Biddulph (810).
Thanks to Robin for cooking the sausages, Alan Wilson & Janette for helping with the
finish and Barry & Mondo for putting up the tent.
