Rob Crawford, mapper and controller for the 2004 NZ MTBO Champs, has been taken ill and is in hospital for some tests. He may be released during the coming week, but members of his club Counties Manukau and Auckland MTBOers are rallying round to ensure the event will proceed. The map files are all ready for printing when entries close on Monday, but there may be some gaps in the final information which is scheduled to be posted on the MTBO website next week.
To cover possible problems, here are the minimum details which will enable you to get to the Saturday event. They have been compiled from a phone message so there is a possibility of error:-)) It may be wise to reread the earlier information.
Location: Waiuku Forest signposted from the centre of Waiuku, allow 30min. Just in case, the directions go like this:
Time: Start times will be pre-allocated to entrants, on Saturday they are from 1pm. So if the times don't get published on the website, plan to be ready to ride at 1pm. And you can obviously find out Sunday start times on Saturday.
Accommodation: Rob Garden has organised a number of motel units in Waiuku for the Saturday night - cost between $24 and $33 depending on unit. Contact Rob by email or phone him at 09 420 2849. It is at the Waiuku Motor Lodge, 139 Kitchener Rd, on the road to Pukekohe near the 50kmh boundary.
Course Lengths: The two distances shown in the table are beeline and round the tracks, followed by number of controls and climb. The distances may seem long especially for Sunday, but travel is mostly on forest roads and well-formed tracks. Speeds will clearly be higher than at the Wellington Champs!! The vegetation is pine forest.
