Event #3
St Pats Forest, 30 June 01

Times include compulsory 2min map marking.

Lesson for today: Look out for "one way" arrows on the map, they are there for safety and course-planning reasons. And the brackets around the control codes are to further distinguish them from control sequence numbers, not to provide an allowable route across rivers!!!

Course 2, 14km 460m climb

Course 3, 8km, 140m climb

Event #2
Whitby Forest, 26 May 01

Times include compulsory 2min map marking.

Lesson for today: please observe "track etiquette" and apply it to controls and junctions. If you aren't sure where to go at a junction or after clipping a control, move off to the side while you suss it out, to avoid holding up other riders.

And lesson for the organisers, course 2 should be shorter relative to course 1. Mind you, that may involve extending course 1, we would like to get a 90min winning time for the open men (and in the NZ Champs to follow the international rules which are for a 110-130min win time). But we would like somewhat shorter win times for the other classes, and maybe there is a need for a course 4 for the younger juniors and anyone else who wants an easy ride. The controls are out there, its easy enough to concoct another combination of controls. Let us know what you think.

Course 1 14km, 640m climb

Course 2, 11km 480m climb

Course 3, 6km, 260m climb

Course planners Michael Wood and Brent Hoy of the Hutt Valley Orienteering Club. Assisted on the day by David McCarthy. First Aid courtesy of the Order of St John. Access by kind permission of Arbor Forestry and Pukenui Farm.

Event #1
Waitarere Forest, 28 April 01

Times include compulsory 2min map marking.

Competitors please note the rules about "you and your bike must visit the control" and "no riding off track". The trail through the grass between the road and control #487 gave it away, folks!

Courses are set to give you interesting route choice decisions assuming you stick to the tracks. The exception "OK to jump tracks which almost touch" doesn't apply at #487; examples of where was intended to apply are the parallel tracks SE of #414 and the track alongside the North-South road in the SW corner of the map.

Course 1 20km, negligible climb

Course 2 14km, negligible climb

Course 3, 7km, negligible climb

Course planners Michael Wood and Brent Hoy of the Hutt Valley Orienteering Club. Assisted on the day by David McCarthy. Access by kind permission of Rayonier NZ Ltd.
