The events are a fundraising project for the Silva NZ orienteering team, which will compete in the World Champs in Japan in September. It will also take on Australia in a test match next weekend in Victoria. Christchurch members of the team are Chris Forne, Jamie Stewart, Rachel Smith and Penny Kane.
Each week the event will focus on a different part of the area bounded by Godley Head, Lyttleton and Sumner. This is a fascinating area with an interesting diversity of landforms, from native bush to rolling hill tops, rocky coast line and pleasant beaches.
The events will be carefully planned to provide a challenging, enjoyable experience for people of all levels of fitness and navigational experience. Sponsorship from Mainland Great Outdoors Centre will provide spot prizes each night. Pre-entry by the Monday prior is recommended to guarantee a 1:25,000 colour map, but on-the-night entrants can take part using black and white copies.
