Wellington Shoestring News

On a day of persistent rain David King was surprised to get 14 rogainers to Te Kopahou Reserve on Wellington's wild south coast on 21 Nov. But the rain was warm and the coast sheltered from the northerly except on the top ridge which reaches 495m. Steve Knowles and Malcolm Childs took their first win, while James Bradshaw wasn't far behind on a limited time period.

And in earlier news, Stu Barr ran the second shoestring rogaine on 7 Nov from the Wellington Rose Gardens. The map incorporated Wellingtons central Parks, Hils, Reserves, suburbs and the CBD. The events are run fortnightly with competitors taking it in turn to design courses and organise maps. The three hour events start fortnightly at 6pm and therefore incorporate daylight and darkness and are aimed as training for those heading to the Marlborough Rogaine in early December.
