Thurlow scored 1360 out of a possible 1650, pretty well cleaning up the steeper but richer section of the map on the main Wellington fault scarp. This is covered in pine plantation with some native bush and extends up to 400m. Part of the Upper Hutt valley floor was also on the map, with 430 points available for 12-13km distance on the flat. Al Cross, Nigel Corry and Bill Martell came within 50 points of Thurlow, but were pegged back a bit by 4 minutes lateness. Thurlow's finish on the other hand was timed to perfection, arriving in the last minute.
Bill Edwards perhaps with an eye on tomorrow night's O-Max park race came in at 2hr25 to claim third spot. Andrew McCarthy and James Bradshaw, also O-Max competitors came in even earlier, at about half time. The top mixed team consisted of Kate and Serge van Dam who made the most of the flat part of the map and were the only ones to get a 70-pointer in Upper Hutt's main street! They were 5th overall.
In spite of wet weather all day there were 25 competitors. In fact temperatures were mild and the drizzle eased off during the event, and a barbeque was fired up at the end.
