Canadian Girls Kick Butt!!!

North American Rogaining Champs

The 2002 North American Rogaining Championships were held just before the Worlds in late July in a rugged 120 square km area just West of Kamloops, B.C. Both the terrain and the weather were somewhat challenging (35 Celsius) and the top team just managed to get 42 of the 60 controls while traveling approximately 70 km.

Pre-race favorites Eric Bone and Bill Cusworth from the US Orienteering team were a little too exuberant on their first leg (50 km) and were unable to go out again, leaving the door open for an unprecedented win by "The Galaxy Girls", two Canadian National Orienteering team stars - Pam James from Nova Scotia (current) and Catherine Hagen from B.C. (past member.)
