Record Field for Heights of Winter Rogaine
Organisers have received a record entry for the
Heights of Winter rogaine,
to be held on June 14.
There are 102 teams involving 270 competitors, including many from beyond Christchurch
and North Canterbury. There are teams from Hawkes Bay, Hutt Valley, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough,
Ashburton, Dunedin and Queenstown.
Some of the leading prospects are:
- Multisport duo Keith and Andrea Murray.
Keith was in the winning team in the NZ Champs in March.
- Tony Bateup, Kathy Lynch (both Nelson) and Steve Gurney
- National Orienteering Squad member and C2C veteran Alistair Cory-Wright with John Fitch
- Chris Forne, a new cap in the NZ orienteering team, and Joe Jagusch
- Al Cross, Jill Westenra and Jenny Shepherd from Wellington. Jill is a multiple C2C winner
- Hayden Key, Rachel Barton and Rhys Burns (Queenstown)
- Twalk organisers Julian Maclaren, Michael Smithson and Darren Welham
- The old firm of Squires, Kennedy and Kennedy (world mixed supervets champions)
- NZ Supervet champions Dave Laurie and Andy Buchanan
- A leading woman's team could be Heather North and Linda Lilburne.
And for something completely different although in the same part of the country,
results for the CUTC's Twenty-Four-Hour Walk (TWalk) are now on the
CUTC website. It was won by "Lyttelton Lowlife"
anchored by father and son Des and Duncan O'Regan, from "Seriously Flippant"
which included NZRA committee memebrs Andy Buchanan and Dave Laurie, and
"The Oldies" Peter Squires and Bill Kennedy.
