Sixth Heights of Winter Rogaine Coming Up

Peninsula and Plains Orienteers have announced that the Heights of Winter 12hr rogaine will be run on 14 June at Waipara, 70min north of Christchurch. The entry form and info have been available through the rogaine calendar for some time but we have overlooked featuring it as "news". Which it is, being the sixth in a line of chilly but excellent midwinter events in Canterbury. The 8:30 to 8:30 event calls for around 3 hours of night navigation just when body and mind are approaching their lowest!

The event is on gentle to steep hills up to 750m, covered by open farmland, scrub and pines. Entries close on 23 May, enquiries to Stuart Payne Ph 03 337 2275 or Jenny Maclaren Ph 03 313 3753

The HOW will follow a busy May for rogainers, with the Marlborough 6hr and Twalk in the South and the Autumn Mist 12hr in the North Island. Bruce Mcleod's August EPIC near Middlemarch is followed by lambing time when access to many areas is restricted, and Wellington's postponed Colonial Rogaine is likely to move to the lower NI's traditional first weekend in December.
