Hopeful Rogaine
The Planner Reports...

It was great to get cooperation from the landowners who turned off nearly all the electric fences, and I am sure you all appreciated that.

The absence of Keith Murray and Dan Dollimore opened the competition up, with Alan Holdaway feeling very confident of his chances in the 6 hour event beforehand, but Mondo Kopua and Zak Hynd put him in his place by 450 points. My prediction was that the winners of the 6 hour event would get about 2000 points, so I was not far out. A very good effort by Mondo and Zak. I was very pleased that all the 6 hour competitors got at least 1000 points, and that no-one was late back - well done.

A speedy Craig Tregurtha did very well to get 1170 points in 3 hours. There were a number of competitors who pushed the 30 minute penalty time limit after the 3 hour event to the extreme, with Don Abbey and daughter Helen from Westport arriving back with 10 seconds to spare before losing all their points. They must have been really enjoying themselves out there, and perhaps should consider the 6 hour event next time! Team 32 of mothers Roxie, Kate and Genevieve should have had a handicap advantage of 800 points for taking their babies with them on the course and having to manage them on the fence crossings and do nappy changes en route.

Just so you know what is involved, it took me 3 days to plan the event, a day and a half to put out the controls on my own, and 2 half days to collect the controls in with the help of Colin Hope and Susan King. Thanks to the MOC members who helped at the start and the finish, and especially to Alan Holdaway who dealt with all the entries. Also, thanks everyone for coming. We hope to see you all again next year.
