Hamilton OC Starts Rogaining

Another club in NZ has put rogaining onto its calendar - Hamilton Orienteering Club. It is running a 3-hour score event on its Old Mountain Road orienteering map on 27 July. Under NZOF policy score events from 3hrs up are classed as rogaines; the first rogaine in New Zealand was a 4-hour event run by Hutt Valley OC in 1991.

Hamilton is the tenth orienteering club in NZ to run a rogaine. In addition Nelson OC has run a trial which was too small to count and Rotorua OC and Auckland OC have events on the drawing board. NZRA, Epic Navigation and Lactic Turkey also run rogaines.

The 3hr Hamilton event starts at 10am, with shorter options starting later. Entry is on the day, and the event will be signposted from SH23 between Hamilton and Raglan. Enquiries to the course planner Ingrid Perols, Ph 07 843 9921.
