Greg Barbour tells of the World MTBO Championships

First World MTB-orienteering Championships, being held at Fontainebleau, 90km from Paris. Greg Barbour, who last year rode one of the World Cup series in Finland, and later captured the Belgian MTB-orienteering title, is at the pioneering world event from his base in Holland. Trevor Knowles of Wellington is taking part in the associated masters events.

The following is from an email from Barbour, to Michael Wood

Classic is finished, good terrain lots of sandy tracks and small hills.

The big controversy on the prologue, which was meant to count but ended up
used for start order as the French had held their National champs on it
three weeks earlier!!

The terrain is very good with a good track density, the most important thing
for MTBO.

I came 59th in the final. 52nd in Prologue. I am making a few mistakes one
of the biggest being not to follow the others!!

Finns won mens and womens and the big news is Emily Viners(Australia) Silver
Medal!!
The Australians all did well and this reflects their strong internal
competitions. This is only my second event this year as the Belgians have a
legal problem at present. Still it is good fun.

Trevor is doing well and enjoying the challenge. He is discovering the big
boys and talking himself down constantly!! I did not realise he has done no
Foot O!
