Simultaneous MTBO at Wgtn, Auckland

Sat 14 August

A date change in the Wellington Series and a late addition to the Auckland calendar have created simultaneous MTBO events on Saturday 14 August. The weekend is also the entry close for the public races which accompany the World MTBO Champs in Victoria.

Event #5 in the Wellington Series is at Makara Peak MTB Park. Planned by Rob Harrow, it will start at the carpark in South Karori Road; but in consideration for regular users of the park, parking will be in the overflow area or Hazelwood St just beyond. Register 12:00 to 1:00, starts 1:00 to 2:00 or earlier if things are ready. Entry fee $20/$10 with $5 discount for orienteering club members. Organising club There are several new tracks since last year; Orienteering Hutt Valley appreciates the track work of the Makara Peak Supporters and makes a donation.

NorthWest OC is hard at work preparing for a major orienteering carnival in January, which will include the second official Australia-New Zealand MTBO Challenge. In spite of that it has decided to run another local event in Woodhill Forest. The location will be signposted from SH16 just south of Helensville, via Rimmers Road. Rob Garden is behind the three courses, and starts are 11:00 to 12:00. Entry fee $20/$10 includes the CHH levy.

Contact details for these and the World Champs public events are on the MTBO calendar.
