Wellington MTBO Plans Unfold
Also Chch and Rotorua Events
Ahead of next month's Cyclic Saga, Peninsula and Plains Orienteers are running a try-it
MTBO in Bottle Lake Forest this Sunday 22 Feb. Part of the Chch City Summertimes Programme,
it was postponed from last weekend. Wonder why...
And Kent Dickson is mapping some tracks near Green Lake in Rotorua's Whaka Forest for an
event on 25 April. Rotorua OC has run two events on a little map made by Michael Wood
as part of a "Show Us How to Run MTBO" consultancy. Full details on the
calendar when known.
Wellington's calendar has taken shape in the last few days with new areas and new
course planners keen to expand. This year it's on the third Saturday of each month,
starting in March.
- 20 March Waitarere Forest
- 17 April Tunnel Gully Upper Hutt
- 15 May St Pats Forest Upper Hutt
- 19 and 20 June Wellington Championship TBA but they're looking at two new
areas
- 17 July Belmont Regional Park Lower Hutt
- 21 August, Either a new area or an old faithful
- 18 September The other of the two new areas.
Trevor Knowles who is planning the first event at Waitarere Forest on 20
March has some innovations. He went to the last World Championship in France
and wants to put on a sprint-distance (about 30-min) event. It will be a new
experience for most of us. And to make a decent day he'll run a second
course in the afternoon. As a result you'll have to get up there earlier
than usual. But a by-product is that newcomers can use the "sprint" as an
introduction, perhaps riding with someone else. So old hands should think about taking
someone new up there!
More details in early March or from Trevor.
