Hutt Valley Orienteering Club's "Quattr-O" series of street-orienteering events has been providing courses suitable for bikers.
The low-key events are based on a pre-printed map with all the controls already marked on. For a long course you have to get, say, 17 out of the 23 in any order, for a shorter course 10, and so on.
While they have been mainly around the streets of Lower and Upper Hutt, these cities have a lot of open areas such as parks, schools and riverbanks, walkways between streets, and most interestingly bush tracks right in suburbia!
Up to a dozen riders have been taking advantage of these events. Quattr-O-2000 results are on the web. Ask YOUR local orienteering club if any of their events are suitable for bikers; they might never have thought of it!!!
