NZ MTBO Champs Announced

Waiuku Forest, 3/4 July 2004

It just needs to be signed and sealed, but there's going to be a New Zealand Champs this year!

The event will be held on 3 and 4 July in Waiuku Forest, which is just north of the mouth of the Waikato River. In a break with (NZ) tradition, it will consist of a long distance and on the second day a shorter course but still with a fixed control sequence. This is to align with the World Champs to be held in Australia in October; for which the NZ Champs is to be a selection trial.

Orienteering rules say that once an area for a championship is announced, it is out of bounds to all prospective competitors. This creates as far as possible a level playing field as far as local knowledge goes.

The event controller will be Rob Crawford, who organised the 2002 champs in Woodhill Forest. Rob is now a member of the Counties Manukau OC, which will be the organising club. Further details as soon as available.
