New Zealand's Marquita Gelderman has finished FOURTH in the Middle Distance
World Championship, running today in Slovakia!!! Marquita was NZ's top woman
at last year's championship, but finishing this high in Europe is incredible!
Australia's top placing was Anna Sheldon in 6th. Of the kiwi men Michal
Glowacki finished 43rd, Greg Barbour 112th and Darryl Taylor sat out the event
feeling off-colour. Tomorrow there's a qualification race for the long distance,
the relay is on Friday and the long final on Saturday.
Two Qualify for World Champ Long, 7 Sep 05
After being unwell yesterday Darryl Taylor bounced back to qualify for the
long distance final at the World MTBO Champs in Slovakia today. He finished 15th
in his heat of 42 riders. Marquita Gelderman also qualified 7th in her heat of 21.
Michael Glowacki (27th) and Greg Barbour (37th) missed out, but they'll ride a
relay with Taylor on Friday. Australia got its three women through for
Saturday's long final, but only two men; Anthony Darr missed by one place.
Steady Ride in Relay, 10 Sep 05
The NZ men rode steadily in the world relay yesterday, moving from 21st to 19th
to 17th out of 25 nations. Australia which took both bronzes on home turf last
time were 7th men but their women were disqualified - a mispunch by final rider
Anna Sheldon while lying third. Winners were Finland
(men) and Germany (women). The long final is today.

Finalists Marquita Gelderman and Darryl Taylor finished 44th and 49th
in the Long Distance World Championship. Australia got a medal at last -
third place to young star Adrian Jackson - while their top woman Anna Sheldon
placed 8th. Russia (men) and Finland (women) took the golds.
