17th September was a fine spring day, and over 60 mountain bikers of all ages, shapes and sizes
took advantage of it to participate in the MTBO event at McLeans Island. The area was a 400%
increase in size of the existing foot-o map, and included a complex riverside network of
motorbike tracks and the fantastic new twists and turns of the purpose built MTB track.
This was the first official use of the new track, which met with resounding praise from
all the participants.
Tim Sikma took out the mens open class, scoring a maximum of 600 points, closely followed by Craig Tregurtha and John Fink who also scored the maximum, but just missed the time cut-off. Womens open was won by Aroha Wigram.
With so many keen participants, it will not be long before Christchurch hosts its next MTBO event- watch this space!
