Hawkes Bay MTBO Double
Te Mata Peak and Esk Valley Forest
Hidden away in a page about Auckland was advance notice about the debut of MTBO
in Hawkes Bay. The details are only now available, its this coming weekend,
not one but two events! Planned by Darryl Taylor, mapping by Neil Kerrison, both
members of the NZ MTBO team at last year's world champs. Here are the details.
- Organiser: Hawke’s Bay Orienteering Club
- Programme: Sat 14th May short distance, first start 1:00pm last start 2:00pm.
Sun 15th May long distance, first start 11:00am last start 1:00pm
- Event Centre: Sat 14th May, gates carpark, Te Mata Peak Road, Te Mata Peak Park, Havelock North.
Sun 15th May, mountain bike park, Waipunga Road, Esk Valley Forest, Napier
- Terrain: Pine forest, redwoods, single track, 4wd and forest roads, mainly hilly for expert courses flatter terrain and small hills for family & beginner courses
- Map: Two special MTBO maps 1:5,000 5m contours day 1 & 1:20,000 10m contours day 2
- Classes: Day 1 open men (30min), open women (30min), open family(30min).
Day 2 open men(120min), open women (90min), open novice (90min), open beginner (45min), open family (30min)
- Punch system: Normal start card and perforator clips
- Entries: On the day
- Entry fee: $8 non members $5 members max per family non members $16 & member $13
