MTBO Under Way in Otago

The Dunedin Orienteering Club is under way with MTB-Orientering, running an extremely successful trailquest-style event in July at Waikaouaiti, just north of Dunedin. There were 60 starts, some being pairs or groups, in categories of 4 hours, 2 hours and 1 hour. Results are on the Dunedin OC website.

DOC was the recipient of a development grant of $500 from the NZ Orienteeering Federation to make the map, as was WACO, the Auckland club which is running the NZ Champs in November. Both PAPO (Canterbury) and HVOC also received grants for the making of their national champs maps. The money comes largely from event levies which orienteering clubs pay, and from a sponsorship from Silva compasses. Orienteering also gets a small grant from SPARC (the former Hillary Commission.)
