Entry Form Out for Cyclic Saga 2002

Entry forms have been released for next year's Cyclic Saga, New Zealand's longest-running and biggest MTB-orienteering event. This will be the eighth Cyclic Saga.

The event is a two-day rogaine-style event for teams of 2, 3 or 4, held on Banks Peninsula in March. In a rogaine you can visit the controls (which carry different points values) in any order, but you must finish within a given time or face a hefty penalty. The Saga has 7 hours on the first day, a compulsory campout (for which the organisers carry your overnight gear) and 6 hours on the second day.

There are one or two differences from MTBO as carried out by orienteering clubs: you provide your own topo map and copy the control points onto it (a bit retro!) And you can ride virtually anywhere apart from some out of bounds areas, although roads and tracks obviously provide the best going.

We hear that Ground Effect, after pioneering the event and running it for 7 years have passed on the organisation to Windy Ridge Ltd. We trust that they will be able to maintain the great standard of previous events. Ground Effect remains a major contributor to the $7000 prize pool.
