Julian and Camilla Cox (Wellington) were first male and female at the Muddy Trails mountain bike orienteering event at Waitarere on July 12. Julian finished the 12km long course in 58 minutes, with Camilla not far behind on 73.
The event was the first in New Zealand to use the IOF specifications for mountain-bike orienteering. These provide for two categories of track/road width, and three categories of ridability, which replace the shades of green familiar to foot-orienteers to indicate runability.
The event was part of the Muddy Trails winter series of mountain bike
races organised by Brent Hoy (Wairarapa OC), and attracted 90 riders.
