The area for NZ's second national MTBO Championship was announced at today's event at Whitby. The champs will be held in the Poroporo block of Ngaumu Forest in the Wairarapa, on 29 and 30 September. This is a large area of plantation forest owned by Juken Nissho Ltd, which also runs the large timber processing plant at the south entrance to Masterton.
As is usual with major orienteering events, the forest is OUT OF BOUNDS until the event for all those who wish to compete. Orienteering is designed to be done on UNFAMILIAR terrain, and this move ensures that all participants will be on the same footing (if that is the word!)
Information and entry forms will be available by the end of June, with entries
closing a few weeks before the event to enable maps to be printed with the
individual courses already on. It is likely that clipcards will be attached to
the bike, to ensure the bike as well as the rider goes to every control.
