MTB-Orienteering Event Confirmed in Christchurch

Port Hills 22 May

Christchurch is the area of New Zealand with probably the most members of the New Zealand squad for the world championships, and has been holding regular training sessions in addition to the annual Bivouac Night Navigation series in September. The area also hosts the popular 2 day cyclic saga event. Ironically however there have not been any recent “normal” MTBO events in the area.

Until now…

The date has now been confirmed for what we hope is the first of many MTBO events in Christchurch. The event will take place on Saturday May 22nd in Victoria Park and the adjacent areas of the Port Hills.

Due to the small area and limited tracks available the event will take a multi-loop format with 3 (different) loops for the long course, 2 loops for the medium course, and 1 loop for the short course. Pairs and family groups are welcome. Help will be available for those new to MTBO.

More details can be found on the Peninsula and Plains Orienteers and the Adventure Events webpages, or from Claire Heppenstall.

Plans for another event in mid-July are in progress, and the organisers hope to hold further events in August and September. The night navigation series will be held as usual on Wednesday evenings in September.
