Wellington Series Continues with Score Event

Belmont Regional Park, 17 July

After a gap for the Wellington Champs, the Wellington Series continues in July in Belmont Regional Park. Graeme Silcock is planning a score event, with a time limit of 2 hours.

The event will start at the Stratton Street entrance to the park, which is behind the Lower Hutt suburb of Maungaraki. From SH2 between Petone and Melling head uphill on Dowse Drive. Left into Stratton St after 3km, event is a further 3km. Usual registration from 12, briefing at 12:45, and everyone starts together at 1:00.

You can expect firmer conditions than at Maungakotukutuku, but no promises are made about the July weather! In bad weather the higher parts of the course (farmland up to 456m) are very exposed, and riders should come prepared. In good weather however the views over Wellington, the Hutt Valley and Porirua and to the South Island are outstanding, and there is nice riding on the old coach road and Danzig track. In a major push this year, this is the second new MTBO map, with a third on the drawing board.

The start point is in the valley of the Korokoro Stream, it is sheltered and there are toilets and nice walks for non-riding friends and family. Bring them along. Enquiries to Graeme at 04 976 7758.
