Auckland MTBO Resumes

After a brief skirmish late last century, and the 2002 National Champs and associated warmups, MTBO near Auckland is on the go again. LacticTurkey Events is organising two Trailquests in December.

The term Trailquest is used in England for MTB-Orienteering Score events, where you have a fixed amount of time to visit as many control points as possible. The order you visit the controls, and which ones you miss out, are over to you. Getting back late however is rewarded by a hefty penalty. Those with Cyclic Saga experience watch out - the penalties are usually much more severe!

The Lactic Turkey events are each part of a double weekend which also includes a 3-hour rogaine. Think of a rogaine as a trailquest on foot. The rogaines and trailquests will use different control sites, so you can put together an interesting weekend. Here are the details:

Sat 6th Dec 3hr Rogaine (walk/run) Woodhill Forest, Akld. Afternoon start.
Sun 7th Dec 3hr Mountain Bike Trail Quest (MTBO score) same map Woodhill Forest, (different control sites), morning start.

Sat 20th Dec 3hr Mountain Bike Trail Quest (MTBO score) Riverhead Forest, Akld. Afternoon start.
Sun 21st Dec 3hr Rogaine (walk/run) same map Riverhead Forest, (different control sites), morning start.

PS At the other end of the country, there has been a small shift in the date of the Sandy Point MTBO, onto the previous day to avoid a MTB Cross-country race. If you are travelling from afar why not do both events? See calendar.
