The standard and depth of junior level orienteering in New Zealand is rapidly increasing - a very healthy sign. However, this means any young orienteer striving to be among the best requires a high level of commitment - displayed by attendance at major events and training camps. The Hutt Valley Orienteering Club recognises the commitment that some of our younger members are making, and also recognises the financial demands made on these people and their parents by competition and training camps. Now we wish to help meet these demands, while encouraging more juniors to try.
The committee of Orienteering Hutt Valley is proud to announce the members of its new junior squad for the 2004/2005 season. The following juniors have gained selection based on excellent participation and results during the last 12 months.

The current squad of eight juniors and will be reviewed each November prior to the clubs Annual General Meeting. Membership of the squad is contingent to an acceptance by the juniors.
The main goal of the squad is to offer assistance to attend national level events and camps. We also envisage organising training and coaching opportunities with the hope of promoting the candidates to the National Orienteering Development Squad in the near future.
As a member of the squad the juniors are welcome to apply for $50.00 towards the costs of attending a National Championship event. The club will also support them with $50.00 towards the costs of attending a national training camp. The current funding period runs from the 1st December 2004 to the 30th November 2005.
The club will fund the squad through the proceeds of a pre-selected event each year. The fundraiser for 2005 has yet to be decided.
Selection and continued funding is conditional on attendance at events and
training and also continued membership of Orienteering Hutt Valley throughout
2005.

Mon 18th Apr - Sun 24th Apr 2005: National Development Squad and Junior Camp, Rotorua)
