Robertsons Rule at WOA foot O Champs
Timothy, Laura and Anna Robertson were all top placegetters at the WOA foot orienteering Champs held near Himitangi in the Weekend. On both days Timothy and Laura were top of their respective classes (M10 and W12A) Anna Robertson came 1st on day two in the Middle Distance Champs and 3rd on day one in the Classic in the W21A grade.
The Championships were held on the Kaikokopu, a mainly sand dune forest map, near Himitangi. While the forest had few fast runnable patches the orienteering was still enjoyable with the ever changing patches of varying runnability of both forest and open land areas.
O Hutt Valley had a great number of successes, not just the Robertson family. Jason van Dyk was placed first in the M20A grade on both days and his father Tony was place first on day two in the M40AS grade well ahead of Craig Nazzer. Bill Edwards (M21E) was third on day one, 6 minutes behind Hawkes Bays Ross Morrison. Susan Edwards was 1st on day one in the W21A grade, a full 7 minutes ahead of Wellingtons Mandy Hancock
Thomas Robinson was first in M16A (third day 2) and Kate Rea and Jess Young were 1st and 4th respectively in the W18A class on day 1.Lynette Porter was first in W40 B
Gavin Scott raced well in both races and was third in M60 despite injuring himself last week in the Omax race when a bridge in the now defunct fun park connected with his head.
Other members that attended were John Robertson, Andrew McCarthy, Phillipa and Bruce Henderson, Pat van Berkel, James Scott, Peter Bakos, Nic Gorman and Predrag Zatezalo
The event was well organised and the promised rain failed to eventuate.
See you in the forest (or the park) soon
