Some very close racing at the top, but Mike and Alan did it again once more showing that out and out speed is no measure for cunning and guile! They were closely followed by bolters, Matt and James Flannery - with a small margin back to gurus Michael Wood and Tony Gazely. Interesting to see that the individuals didn't feature at all with the first individual placing way down at 12th. Come on guys - stop being so anti-social and rent a crowd (….that goes for me as well!).

Results have been modified for individuals (less 10% and rounded to nearest 10), and late racers. On the latter - only one team was late, a dramatic improvement on the South Coast event! There were some lateral answers and we were fairly lenient with those, but deducted points if you were miles off the correct answer. Also took away points where we couldn't read the answers - which only really affected one competitor. Harsh but fair!

A few comments:

69 on the night which is fantastic - thanks for turning out in such good numbers to race and please continue to support future series!

Control 64 down by the Red Rocks bachs gave some trouble although James + Becks managed to find it. I’ve credited those that asked for it as the circle on the map is misleading, the control is actually on the northern edge of the circle. Everyone came back (eventually) alive and well, most of the feedback was positive apart from the wind being cold and the hills steep (and the gorse prickly for those who chose to ignore my advice and travel off piste eh Greg?). Some confusion with the score cards (obviously I didn’t explain them clearly enough ). The idea is to match up the control no with the clip card no then write just the code (ideally a single letter or digit) in the appropriate box on the score card. Minimizes the handling and resulting damage to the card and makes scoring easier.

Winner's route (approx): 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, 61, 51, 73, 52, 90, lost and found contents of pack, 82, 72, 53, poss one or two others; 2min late.

Third place route: 11, 30, 52, 90, 82, 64, 72, 81, 31, 10; finished right on 9pm.

Humid clear conditions soon turned to a fog which would have made navigation interesting up the top. Thanks to the guys at Porirua City Council (Clive ) for help with the map; Mike for those little details that project managers always remember; Pete's Wife (Suzanne) for helping out with the BBQ. A friendly reminder: Can everyone please put their names on their control sheets - especially those who finish early...

Lost: Light blue Asics running jarket (probably in the vacinity of Camp Elsdon). Please contact

Finally It was great to see such a good turnout. It certainly makes the time involved in setting up the course worthwhile. Hope to see you in two weeks time at Mt Vic
