Chapter 5, 22 Nov 2020

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 (Bold) The inlet in the trees leading to the white corridor Into the white corridor and thru to the fence. You might have to go L or R along the fence. Safer/slower way would be to hit the circular fence outside the trees and then work your way round. This was a toughy for the first foot leg!
2 The bulges on the wide (brown) path. Though fast open land there are so many trees and blobs of bush that a good compass direction is the answer here. Otherwise you could hit the path to the right or left of the line, and mis-interpret the various trees. But at the bulges you'll be able to figure out the two green-circle trees and the light green bush that the control is on.
3 The L-shaped clearing You can probably hit the clearing with a good bearing but will be slowed down by the green forest. OTOH the tracks and the yellow strips NW of the square carpark can be time-consuming to sort out. My advice - go close enough to the carpark to pick out the paths that go NW from the corners. Choose one of those and follow tracks to the clearing, and hence the control. The most reliable one goes close to control 4.
4 Awkward, nothing much on the approach side, since that white corridor is not very distinct. OK the two green blobs on the other side, next to the road. Head NW to the curvy road, along to its E end and there are your green blobs. Though longer than going direct its sure and safe.
5 Work back from the control and choose one of the ends of the (brown) path the control is beside. The N end is at the corner of a big open area. Like control 3, there's a direct route but its either green forest or maze-like tracks. Head round the N side of the bush maze to the open area, and your corner. Longer but simple and safe.
6 N end of the (brown) path (close to the edge of the park). Head over towards the stone wall on the edge of the park, the various gaps and bends in the wall will help you arrive at the AP. Then slow down and read the minor tracks into the control.
7 E end of the oval patch of bush. Get out of the bush into the big open area by going roughly NE. Out in the middle you'll be able to identify your patch of bush.
8 S corner of the path network (cycle training area) Head roughly S and the network will come into view. There might be a faster route, but without such a solid AP you'll have to look behind a number of trees!
9 The fenced-in bush is its own AP. A classic L or R route choice. Don't agonise, just choose and get on with it.

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 End of houses/start of bush
2 Track junction As track becomes indistinct, continue in same direction to ruined fence. Nice forest!
3 Clearing Back to the main track (shortcut if confident), left at junction into clearing.
4 Nothing obvious, this is a hard one. No good APs on the track. If you are exp'd then estimate where to go in from the track; or carefully follow compass from previous control. If not, use track to come out in the open S of the control. Then you know where you are, use compass to go carefully N.
5 Bold: SW end of bush. Conservative: the gap between the fence and NE end of bush It's a matter of your skill in the bush. If inexp'd then cut that down to the minimum.
Type of nav changes in a school but same principle - something that is unusual. Use routes that avoid complexity. Checking everything off is fine, but slow.
6Enclosed area largely grassed (most are paved) The eastern gate is better for getting to the AP, then those scattered trees "point" to a building gap, then you're in the grassed area
7 NE Corner of school grounds OK its beyond the control but only just. Equal route choice round the building.
8 Building end with little projection These two legs just getting set up for a long, "across the maze" leg.
9 Unique thing is paved area right up to W side of school grounds Thru the middle via #6 is possible but complicated. Round the N of the buildings is a goer but there are high fences; you may be able to see the gates if you have good eyesight. Round the S of the buildings near #11 looks safer.
10 W Corner of school grounds with white forest Don't need to actually go into the corner, just visit with your eyes.
11 A bit tricky, those 4 black things arent really walls. Anyway a group of 4 identical things. Straight thru the X's (playground equipment) so that you can identify those "things" (thin raised garden plots).
F N edge of school grounds. Avoid complexity - straight up the canopied walkway. Can turn off early if it looks good but no problem to go almost to the end of the canopy. It's simple.

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 Trees everywhere! Suggest treating the three green blobs as a whole A good compass direction between the first two blobs will get you to the third!
2 The small green blob immediately S of the brown path. Use the AP to guide you into the light green part of the bush. (The track to the E of the control is a possibility but its hard to find - the dashes don't come right out into the open)
3 The clearing Safest entry to the clearing is via the white bits of bush, esp the one next to the building. You can get in through the light green but its harder to judge.
4 Vegetation boundary corner If the corner isn't obvious aim right and then run along the boundary.
5 Paved area with wall
6 The path, but where on the path? Split the difference between the patch of open on the far side of the path (R) and the end of the trees (L).
7 The yellow "inlet" that extends to the park edge. Bold: SE to cross the brown path near the picnic table, maintain direction until the inlet. Safe: Head E to the path junction near #8, follow SE branch to the mouth of the inlet.
8 Path junction. OK its past the control but in an area with lots of trees it is unique If you spot the control on the way to the AP, great!
9 Path. Similar to #6 but this time there's a tree on the path which locates you perfectly.
10 Path, point where the bush starts on BOTH sides Head for the AP not the control - so via the path. Stay in the bush if you want an extra challenge.
F   Up the path, or use the white corridor?

Chapter 5, 22 Nov 2020

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 Gap between the two green blobs. Which way round the halfway blob? Both similar.
2 The green blob itself Compass to ensure the correct blob - its due W. If you're tough you can bust right thru the blob instead of going round:-))
3 Another green blob Compass to ensure the correct blob again - but its one of only two that are just short of the road
4 The two big rocks with steep edges Cautious - take the brown track down to the riverbed but then there's some stony ground to cross. Better would be the two-dashed track near the green X. It gives you a view from above as you approach the AP, though you may have to jump down onto the riverbed.
5 The largest rock of the collection. If nothing stands out, divert to the brown track end. Don't be awestruck by rock or other detailed areas, there is always something with a difference. Experience will develop your discrimination. If not there's always the edge of the detail.
6 The boulder pile
7 Hard. The small pond is the unique feature. Have to admit the gray rock isnt right as that implies runnable. And it isnt all that different from the stony riverbed. The fastest way as mapped would be via the brown track and gray rock. The fastest way in reality may be via the track NE of #8. Sorry:-))
8 End of the larger track
9 Passage between the green/white blob and the dark green. This control has a bad (vague) description and I wouldn't use it in a championship.
F The green blob
