Sprint Adventure Race Lessons

Foot Course A

Chapter 4, 6 Feb 2020

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 The riverbed end of the black track Minor choice from the inland end of the black track: use the track or the yellow strip.
2 One of the track junctions directly S of #5 Classic which way round the block choice. There's a third choice along the yellow strip parallel to the river and into the control from the exit direction. Very simple and hardly any longer.
3 The junction S of #2. Its nearer 2 than 3 but best I can see. Find the light green gap and careful bearing. If direction wrong will still get caught by the cliff but extra distance.
4 Junction of yellow strips
5 The SW end of the short link track. So can approach control up the reentrant.

Foot Course B

Chapter 4, 6 Feb 2020

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 Vegetation/riverbed boundary Aiming off called for - due S would also minimise the distance in green.
2 Tricky, the green/white change may not be discernable. All we have is the veg/riverbed boundary. A case for a distance estimation - want to turn in slightly early - so how about 40m?
3 The yellow gap
4 The large rock construction. Yes a tourist control site:-))
5 The pond
6 Water edge
7 NA, taped route
8 Clearing itself
9 Pinch point in open land
F Vegetation/riverbed boundary Designed to tantalise - thru the green or round east end?

Foot Course C

Chapter 4, 6 Feb 20

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 Fence across carpark, SE end
2 Black caterpiller shape (very thick concrete wall) Get there ASAP to see what the unusual feature is - which means round S side of boulder field.
3 First formline hill
4 Trees adjacent river trail Over concrete wall and thick earth wall or round the NE end?
5 Fence gap for river trail
6 The caterpillar thing again Left or right round the boulder field?
7 Bright yellow "inlet"
8 Carpark access road Left or right round green blob. Probably R in spite of concrete plus thick earth wall, we've met them already.
9 Nothing much in front but can locate visually by rocky knoll behind.
10 Green blob Multiple green blobs but go twice as far as watercourse for the correct one
11 Paved square and table
F   Which way round the small blob?

Foot Course D

Chapter 4, 6 Feb 2020

Map has (a) roads fences, bright yellow and scattered yellow removed (b) every single tree marked.

Leg Attackpoint Route Choice
1 Western square of paving Around NW end of the green blob. From there to AP I should only have trees on my L
2 Between two green blobs where there's a watercourse
3 Green blob next to highway Rough S bearing to ensure don't end up with wrong blob.
4 Green blob Bearing should ensure correct blob. Round N end faster.
5 Hard. Nothing in front, choose watercourse next to road behind. Specially as control is S side of tree. An accurate bearing due S will pass a couple of blobs on the right and we'll be collected by the long thin green shape. Let this curve us round until nearly at the SW end of it.
6 Nasty. The pair of trees just over half way. Will need an accurate bearing to the AP. Then a new bearing and same distance again. Should take us just past and can look over shoulder. Impractical to identify the right tree from the front:-)
7 One of those light green passages through the long green shape.
8 Control #4 which we've been to; its green blob has that unusual rough open tip on it
9 NW tip of long oval green blob. A rough bearing should take us past the two close paved squares and and we can correct direction.
F The green blob L or R - left looks best.
