Moonshine Park/Trail Event

Courses pretty reasonable considering the qualifications of the planners! Plenty of handrails for the white course, although the ground checkers only just noticed that a road in Trentham Park has had a length completely removed and turned into grass! The course finished with the must-do wiggle through the tracks in Barton's Bush. Yellow started off with a "shall-I-get-my-feet-wet" route choice at #1 and some longer legs through the park before the hardest control, a large depression in the trees. Harder than the rest, but the rules for yellow permit simple contour features off the handrail provided there is an obvious point to go in - in this case the corner of the carpark. This provision is designed to provide a bridge between yellow and the next level orange.

The flat part of the trail courses provided some nice route choice, even before #1 was a choice of a bit of green alongside a ditch vs a walkway a little further on. Heading out of Upper Hutt College came a really good leg - first spot that the obvious street didn't join the walkway where the control was! After that was which route, with two subsequently measured at 1.15 and another at 1.25. Unfortunately there was also a fourth through an unmarked walkway which measured at 1.05 - but these events don't have an independent check.

The short course returned down the riverbank after that, with the long joining the medium for a nice run through St Pats Forest. Surprisingly the most remote orange ribbon was missing - subsequently found still attached to its small tree but removed from its location! Early runners placed an alternative ribbon.
