Michael comments...
Given that many weeknight rogainers have other weekend sports there was a great turnout in the rogaine section of the Belmont Jungle event, using controls from two red courses and half a dozen extra thrown in to foil obvious loops. Mike Sherwin, Jason Brown and Matt Allen virtually cleaned up the dam side of the course and several of the street controls, as did Luke Paardekooper just 20 points behind. Petone multisporters Al Cross and Jill Westenra were the top mixed team 100 points further back.

There were fewer customers for the fixed order courses. The "jungle" label was deliberate because the terrain is steep and green and we didn't want to pretend otherwise. But it offers practice in handling that "really lost" feeling which crops up less often as you get more experienced. Jason Markham handled the difficult conditions well, and we hope that others improved their skills. Most of the control markers are ribbons and will stay out until the World Rogaine champs in November; if you want to test your skills please ask me for a map and control descriptions.

Some feedback: "Awesome rogaine yesterday" (Keri Devine) and "Thanks for a great event, it was great to be able to get off track, and it was reasonably sheltered from the wind in the bush" (Mike Sherwin).
